A Hive Creative Entrepreneur Spotlight

Although we’re serious about putting on and showcasing our member businesses, the growing (physical) space between us has called for a special kind of closeness. We reached out to our community to find out how their personal and entrepreneurial selves were doing.

Mpumelelo Zulu is a Barista and the go-to-guy at Hive Member Business, Cafe’naited Coffee Company. We caught up with him to find out what drives a man to open a coffee shop and how business has changed since the national lockdown.

4 Things about Mpumelelo:

  • Most of my playlist is chill music [like] house
  • I love basketball
  • I listen to a lot of business podcasts and like watching documentaries
  • I’m currently on a hiatus from watching anything

Business

Cafe’naited is the home of great coffee and different types of people looking for a chill working environment. The café can be found at one of their stores in Morningside and Newtown Junction (inside AMPD-Studios).

The business was particularly affected by the national lockdown, especially in Sandton where their store had to close because most of their target audience began working from home well before the national lockdown became law.

To combat this, the business has reverted to providing educational content for their audience of coffee-lovers. The idea is to help people teach themselves how to make coffee, how to use coffee-making equipment and hopefully, sell them some of the required products in an online store or something similar.

Cafe’Naited pride themselves in a spirit of community echoed in Mpumelelo’s attitude towards content, especially with the central role entertainment, art and media has taken during lockdown times:

“If you’re bored enough, create your own podcast and give the world your point of view. Generally, I like watching or hearing stuff people have made”

You can watch the video below to delve deeper into the story of Cafe’naited and Mpumelelo’s love for coffee. If you know you can’t resist a good cup, get yourself a voucher and spoil yourself to some personal coffee dates when the world finally opens.
